IT@Spectrum is one of the most forward thinking and successful print channel partners in the UK.
I first met Ken Sturdy, MD of IT@Spectrum, in 2012, when I was working with Canon UK on an accreditation programme for partners who were developing their MPS offering. IT@Spectrum passed the MPS accreditation with flying colours, and have since been awarded the highest possible status under Canon’s pan-European quality accreditation scheme for Managed Print Services, Advanced Office Imaging, Advanced Office Solutions, and Information Management.
They are also ISO 9001:2015 accredited, and a Silver Level member of the Investors in People programme.
I was very impressed by Ken, who brings a refreshingly direct and insightful approach to the print business. Ken is unusual among business principals in the industry in coming from a service background, and this shines through in his logical, structured and process driven approach to building a highly customer-focused business, which has been very successful under his leadership. They have built a very impressive customer base, from large multi-nationals, such as Youngs Seafood, and Smith& Nephew, through regional firms of solicitors and accountants, down to local businesses and schools.
In 2014, Ken showed great foresight in investing in The One Point, an IT Services business based in the same region, in East Yorkshire. Now, in 2018, IT@Spectrum and The One Point have relocated together to new state-of-the-art premises close to the Humber Bridge, and are working increasingly closely together to offer an integrated Managed IT Service and Managed Print Service to customers.
Channel Vitality started working with SolarWinds MSP in 2017, to identify forward looking print channel partners that they could work with, to help develop an IT Managed Services offering for mid-sized customers. Based on what I knew from previous conversations with Ken, I looked no further than IT@Spectrum as a partner with which to try out this new opportunity. Ken saw the potential straight away, and introduced us to his colleague, Martin Lauer, who runs The One Point.
Martin explained to us that the One Point already had another platform in place for its Managed Services Offering, but he quickly saw the potential of the SolarWinds MSP N-Central Remote Monitoring & Management Platform to take the business to a higher level, with faster growth and more profitable recurring revenue streams. The One Point signed a contract with SolarWinds MSP in January 2018, and has installed N-Central as a replacement for its previous platform. This makes the IT@Spectrum joint venture with The One Point the first print channel partner for SolarWinds MSP in the UK.
The One Point’s business is going from strength to strength, growing in tandem with the IT@Spectrum MPS business, and now we are getting interest from an increasing number of partners in the European print channel, who also want to develop Managed IT Services to offer a more complete portfolio to their customers. This follows the worldwide print channel business development track established by SolarWinds MSP, who are already working successfully with several leading printer OEMs around the world, and with multiple print channel partners in N. America.
We wish Ken, Martin and their team every success in growing and developing their business in IT Managed Services, in partnership with SolarWinds MSP. We will follow their progress with keen interest, and look forward to reporting on their future achievements.
